Snowe Calls on Senate Leadership to Implement Economic Recovery Plan
WASHINGTON D.C. - As part of her continued efforts to restore the national economy, U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine) today voiced recommendations for a broad-based stimulus package that will help boost economic growth and avert a deeper and more intractable recession. In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, Senator Snowe urged that her recommendations be included in any economic stimulus package to be considered by the next Administration and the 111th Congress in January. Senator Snowe made similar recommendations in phone conversations with and letters to President-elect Obama and Vice President-elect Biden last week.
“Congress must work quickly and cooperatively to enact solutions for the American people,” Senator Snowe said. “With 10.3 million people out of work and 25 % of employers expected to cut jobs in the next year, the effects of the economic crisis are being felt in households across the country. In these challenging times, there is no room for partisan politics; only viable solutions that will create jobs, reduce home foreclosures, and restore America’s powerful economy.”
