Maine MEP Showcases M.O.S.T.® Workforce Mobile Training Unit for Area Manufacturers

AUGUSTA, ME - One of the country’s most innovative vehicles for delivering workforce training will be visiting southern Maine on Friday, December 17, 2010, to demonstrate its capabilities to area manufacturers. The Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership (Maine MEP) today announced that the M.O.S.T.® Mobile Training Unit – one of five such vehicles in the country – will be open for tours and demonstrations at the Springvale Career Center on Friday, December 17, 2010, from 10:00 am to noon.

The mobile training unit is a computer-equipped state-of-the-art classroom on wheels that delivers onsite training for manufacturers. It offers several advantages over traditional worker training programs:

•  First, the training program can be customized to meet the needs of a particular employer. This shortens the length of time needed for trainees to become productive employees and increases the attractiveness of the training program for small manufacturers.

•  Second, the mobile training unit can be located at the employer’s facility or at a location that is convenient for trainees. This flexibility in training delivery is particularly important for rural manufacturers who may not be located near a community college or other training facility.

•  Third, participating employers commit to hiring trainees who successful complete the program. This enhances trainee motivation because participants know that a job with additional on-the-job training awaits them.

Based on the M.O.S.T. ® pilot program launched in Maine in 2007, and with the recently completed training in Florida and Mississippi, the M.O.S.T®. program has an extraordinarily high job placement rate of over 90%.

Members of the media are invited to tour the mobile training unit and talk with Maine MEP instructors.
